Rethink Food
New YorkRethink Food is a chef-led nonprofit on a mission to create a more sustainable and equitable food system.
Food insecurity impacts 47 million people – including 13.8 million children – across the United States. Since 2017, we’ve been rethinking this problem with a solution hiding in plain sight: restaurants. That’s right. Restaurants. We partner with restaurants to provide meals for communities in need, while helping create jobs and supporting small businesses—the pillars of our local economy.
To build a network of impact, we connect restaurants, community-based organizations, and food donors to deliver meals where they’re needed most. Through our Sustainable Community Kitchen in Greenwich Village, we set the example and demonstrate what dignified, community-centered food access can look like. To advocate for systems change to food system, we champion policy to create a more sustainable, equitable food future for all.
To date, Rethink Food has invested more than $157 Million Dollars into local restaurants, provided over 34 Million Meals to food insecure communities in six cities, and converted over 2.8 Million Pounds of donated food into meals.
