New YorkWhen Graydon Carter — then editor of Vanity Fair — reopened the landmark Waverly Inn in 2006, it was like a private club for celebs, complete with an unlisted phone number. Fast forward to today: It still has a glamorous vibe (and that room-length Edward Sorel mural of Village personalities), but it’s become a neighborhood favorite with an accessible American menu — and you can even get the place on the phone.
